JusticeText is a Bloomberg Beta and True Ventures-backed startup that is building technology to improve criminal justice outcomes for low-income Americans.
Our AI platform helps public defenders analyze voluminous body-cam footage to more effectively hold police accountable and keep their disproportionately Black and brown defendants out of prison. Racial and economic justice is at the core of our company mission, and we believe technological innovation has an important role to play in this movement.
JusticeText was co-founded by Devshi Mehrotra and Leslie Jones-Dove in January 2019 while they were both computer science students at the University of Chicago. Our work is grounded in both a sociological and historical appreciation for the complexities of the American criminal justice system - with its gaping faults and inequality but also its capacity for reform. Our work has been featured by Axios, MIT Technology Review, Forbes, and ABA Journal.
The company has raised over $3M in funding — including a $2M+ seed round announced in Fall 2022 — from Silicon Valley VC firms like Bloomberg Beta and True Ventures and angel investors like John Legend, Reid Hoffman, and Michael Tubbs. About the Role
JusticeText is at a pivotal moment of growth, and we’re hiring our first full-time marketing leader to help scale our impact. We have built a product that public defenders love, and momentum is on our side, with:
Strong product-market fit with an enthusiastic customer base
AI-driven transformation in public defense creating more demand
Rapid growth - doubling our user base in the past year
We have had early wins through press coverage and partnerships, but we know we are just scratching the surface. We need a strategic and hands-on marketing leader to build on what is working and unlock new channels for growth.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in fast-moving environments, loves crafting compelling narratives, and enjoys both strategy and execution. If you are excited by the challenge of growing a brand that is reshaping access to justice, we would love to hear from you.
What You Will Do
As our Marketing Lead, you will own and execute initiatives that drive brand awareness, credibility, and lead generation. Your core responsibilities will include:
Event Marketing – Expand our presence at industry events, partner with associations, and create engaging webinars that connect us with public defenders.
Content & Thought Leadership – Develop compelling, SEO-optimized content (landing pages, blog posts, social, sales materials) that highlights our product, mission, and impact.
Press & Earned Media – Secure media coverage by crafting strong press pitches and managing relationships with journalists across local, national, and industry-specific outlets.
Website Optimization – Ensure our site always reflects the best version of our brand and messaging.
Performance Analysis – Measure ROI across initiatives, refine strategies based on data, and ensure marketing efforts are driving leads and top-line growth.
Who You Are
We are looking for a strategic yet execution-focused marketing pro who is eager to build from the ground up. The ideal candidate has:
5-6 years of experience in marketing at a B2B SaaS startup (ideally in vertical SaaS)
Familiarity with a wide variety of marketing channels in order to shape our strategy
A track record of owning marketing campaigns end-to-end, from idea to execution
Storytelling superpowers - with a deep understanding of how to communicate a brand’s value proposition to its target audience
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to easily build trust with a diverse group of stakeholders, including public defenders
Data-driven mindset - comfortable analyzing marketing performance and optimizing accordingly
Experience working with freelancers and agencies to scale marketing efforts when needed
Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, startup environment
Passion for the racial and economic justice issues that motivate this work
